Associated British Ports' (ABP) Port of Immingham has welcomed the arrival of the Unifeeder vessel Herm J to the Exxtor Terminal on its inaugural voyage to the port.
Traditionally Unifeeder has operated in the Baltic area, but has now broadened its activities by operating a new services to the UK; one from Hamburg calling at the Exxtor Terminal on a Monday, and a second from Rotterdam calling on a Wednesday.
Unifeeder will be offering door-to-door services using its own fleet of containers. The service from Hamburg is a new route, unique to the Humber, which will offer shippers an alternative option for the North German and Polish markets.
ABP has invested £13 million over the last five years in developing the container-handling capacity of the Exxtor Terminal, which has enabled the container terminal to double capacity for vessel handling and storage.
As a consequence of this investment, the Exxtor Terminal is well placed to accept new additional business and the arrival of the Unifeeder service continues the expansion of the container shipping trades at Immingham.
The lines already operating at the Exxtor Terminal offer container services to Iceland, Scandinavia, the Baltic and the near continent and a major consideration for Unifeeder was the range of complementary services.
